NTAA has had a big win for its members!
The Tax Practitioners Board ('TPB') recently issued a media release advising that Treasury had completed its consultation in relation to the TPB registration pathways.
Last year, Treasury released a consultation paper, setting out its proposed reforms to the eligibility requirements for registration with the TPB.
Among other things, this consultation paper proposed removing the professional association accreditation and registration pathway for tax agents (known as 'Item 206').
The NTAA prepared a written submission to Treasury in August last year in relation to this consultation paper where we strongly advocated against the removal of Item 206, which would have directly affected many of our members.
In particular, we were concerned that the removal of this pathway would create a barrier to entry that may deter some highly experienced tax professionals from seeking registration as a tax agent.

The good news here is that, under the announced Consultation outcomes, Treasury advised that the proposal to remove Item 206 will not proceed.
